This is the wedding of John and Debbie. They were already married. However, that's not what makes this wedding so different. This wedding is different because Debbie planned the entire wedding (vow renewal) and John had no idea. John simply thought that the family would be having their family photos taken at their special location while at the beach this year.
The story of John and Debbie was shared with me prior to this day, Debbie said that they had planned to remarry already. John and written a letter to Debbie and placed it in the mailbox at a secluded location of Sunset Beach called Kindred Spirit.
Oddly, I have been in this area for years and was not even aware that it existed. It is almost a two mile hike that can only be reached by foot. It houses a bench overlooking the ocean with tall sand dunes and sea oats and a simple mailbox that stands tall and proud. This is where visitors come year after year to share stories of (and with) loved ones that have passed and for some to share feelings, etc. of things that have happened in their lives. They simply then place these letters in the mailbox. Others, pull the letters out and read what others have written from the heart.
We hiked to the secluded location yesterday. A wedding however looked as though it was getting ready to take place. We were intruding on a bride and grooms big day. We asked those that were there if they minded if we were to take a few photos by the mailbox as the bride and groom had not yet arrived. They happily honored our request so we quickly placed the family in perfect order and grabbed a few family photos.
I spoke earlier of the letter that John had written to Debbie years prior and placed it too in the mailbox. This letter spoke of her meeting him at the mailbox to remarry him again. Debbie pulled the letter out of her hand bag that she has kept with her and began to read it to John, with family and friends gathered around, it did not take very long for John to realize that he was in the midst of his own wedding.
